Christ will hold me fast
"When I fear my faith will fail
Christ will hold me fast"
In times of doubt, whether fleeting thoughts or full seasons, whether caused by philosophical debate or deep suffering, God is bigger still. He is more powerful than our doubts. He is more merciful than our adulterous hearts deserve.
So when we face doubts we can cling onto the knowledge that when we struggle to keep going, and admit our weaknesses to Christ, it is him who will hold us fast.
The thorns alongside roses and poppies represent lives where doubts and struggles are intertwined with the joys of new life, of victories and of confidence in Christ. Messy lives made beautiful by the death of Jesus on a cross. Although crowned with thorns to mock his authority, these became the victory crown of he who conquered death. An emblem of the hope we have, despite our doubts, united with him.
