Do not conform to the patterns of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
— Romans 12:2

Isn’t it funny how in life we try so hard to fit in. We are conditioned to do so from an early age. School, University, Employment. We are taught to blend in. To not stand out.

It is only when you encounter radical love that earthly standards are flipped on their head and we finally grasp that 'standing out' is exactly what is required. How could we even begin to authentically engage, challenge and impact our contexts if we are simply chameleons in our culture? To influence positive change we cannot continue to chase down societal patterns or let the world determine the pace.

Don’t get me wrong, often there can be so much to gain from culture, context and community. However, ultimately we need to clearly draw a line in the sand that determines the ways in which we will not be compromised and the things we are not prepared to lay down because of who we are, and who created us.

God encourages you to just 'do YOU', not how the world might illustrate you. He knows you, He made you. When it comes to my life and personal faith I will wholeheartedly place myself in the hands of the Designer.

Breathe in Jesus, drink deep, and let the knowledge of who He is and awakening of your identity generate new thoughts, patterns, behaviours and understandings that have potential to change your environment.

We are clay, and He is the potter. He is moulding us through a multitude of encounters, trials and experiences to be more like Him. We are literally 'putty in the hands' of a wildly creative Father. Be willing to let Him shape you.

Do not attempt to love this world through gritted teeth. Allow supernatural, transforming strength to be so at work in you, that as you journey further with God you can actually flourish despite human weakness. We are works in progress of unceasing spiritual refinement.

He is taking us from 'glory to glory'.

And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
— 2 Corinthians 3:18

Even though the heat of life’s trials can last but a moment, they are never without lesson and their beautiful effects can carry us into eternity. The fire galvanises hope and produces something unique and precious in us.

Let us be a people who continually refresh the inward workings of our minds with the things of Jesus and welcome in true, lasting transformation with the power to invade our surroundings.

A glorious re-generation.

So then, if our body is a living sacrifice, every outpouring of word, action and attitude should be a little bit of worship personified. Worldly 'white noise' is at risk of creating discord, and twisting the heavenly truth about who we are and the unique purpose that dwells in who we are called to be.

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations
— Jeremiah 1:15

Set your mind on things above. Embrace this new kingdom mind-set. It is never too late for a change of heart.

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things
— Colossians 3:2
